French clubs postpone boycott
French soccer clubs have postponed plans to boycott matches at the end of the month in protest of a government plan to impose an additional tax on players' salaries.
The Union of Professional Football Clubs met with a government mediator Wednesday and announced Thursday that the games for Nov. 29 through Dec. 2 will go ahead.
The union and the French league had previously agreed to boycott matches in the first and second divisions for that round.
French President Francois Hollande has rejected the clubs' request to alleviate the so-called 75 per cent tax law on income above 1 million euros or $1.38 million a year. He told a European Union summit the law ''must be the same for all.''
Union President Jean-Pierre Louvel had been adamant the boycott would proceed.
