Former Real Madrid and Spain striker Fernando Morientes has announced his retirement from football.

Morientes told COPE radio on Monday he rejected a chance to play for Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and offers from Mexico, Qatar and Dubai to work as a TV commentator.

Partnering Raul Gonzalez in attack, Morientes helped Madrid to three Champions League titles, two Spanish leagues and two Intercontinental Cups from 1997 to 2003.

He led Monaco to the 2004 Champions League final before joining Liverpool in 2005, where he scored 12 goals in 61 appearances. He also played for Valencia before spending his last season at Marseille.
