The German football federation rejected former Germany coach Rudi Voeller's appeal against a ?10,000 ($13,750) fine for his outburst against a referee.

The DFB said Friday it upheld the sanction against the Bayer Leverkusen sporting director that was issued last week for ''unsporting behavior.''

Voeller complained to referee Guenter Perl following Leverkusen's 4-1 Bundesliga loss at home to Cologne on Sept. 17.

DFB sports court president Hans E. Lorenz said the court had ''understanding'' for Voeller's complaint, but ''we have no understanding for the way, and intensity, in which he made this protest. You have to expect a sporting director to behave differently.''

Voeller was fined ?5,000 in May following another outburst against a referee.

Lorenz suggested that Voeller should stay in the stands in future ''because further incidents of a similar nature would have to lead to a ban.''
