Mike Doyle, the former England international who was a key member of the successful Manchester City side during its trophy-laden period in the late 1960s and early '70s, has died. He was 64.

Doyle died on Tuesday after being treated for liver failure. He had been battling ill health for the past 12 months.

City says the club is ''deeply saddened'' by the death of a defender who made more than 550 appearances for the first team from 1962-78 and was an ''imposing presence'' at center back.

Doyle was part of the City team which won the English title, FA Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup and the League Cup from 1968 to 1970. He captained City when it won the League Cup again in 1976.
