Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has not ruled out the possibility of a move to Italy.

The 31-year-old Uruguayan has been linked with a move away from the Estadio Vicente Calderon since the summer, when he was one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup.

The former Manchester United forward has most commonly been linked with a return to the Premier League, but revealed in an interview with Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport that he would listen to offers from Serie A sides.

He said: "I do not exclude that in the future, if a good offer came to me and the club, a proposal that was not only suitable economically but also from the perspective that it was an important club, (then) I would accept."

Atletico face Real in the Madrid derby this Saturday having won just two of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

"It's strange, we have strengthened the team and we're not getting results. Perhaps we have had too many injuries, but we're still working calmly," Forlan added.

The South American rejected the idea that Atletico were forever in the shadow of Real in the Spanish capital.

"For the fans, the media interest and passion of the public, Atletico is not a lesser club than Real Madrid. It is a great club, not only in Spain but the world," he said.
