Fiorentina call end to Insua pursuit

Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua's move to Fiorentina has fallen through, the Italian club's sporting director has confirmed.

Pantaleo Corvino said the Serie A club had been unable to agree terms with the 21-year-old Argentinian.

The two clubs had agreed a fee, worth a reported £5million, last month but discussions with Insua himself have proved fruitless. With the Argentinian refusing to budge on his salary demands, Fiorentina have admitted defeat.

"Insua is not coming," said Corvino. "He had high economic demands."

"I was in talks with the sporting director at Liverpool, who is our guest here, until two this morning.

"At the end we decided to give up on Insua, who will remain in England.

"The player would have entered into Fiorentina's technical and financial plans, but we couldn't reach an agreement with the player.

"Today, the deal can be considered finished."

Insua arrived at Anfield in January 2007 from Boca Juniors and has played 62 matches for the Reds.

He had a difficult season as injury to Fabio Aurelio meant he was first-choice left-back for most of the campaign and that eventually took its toll on his performances.
