Feyenoord will try to raise at least ?17 million ($23.5 million) by selling a stake to outside investors, club director Eric Gudde said only days after the team's worst ever defeat.

Gudde said Thursday that a group of investors called ''Friends of Feyenoord'' will boost an existing stake to 49 percent in exchange for the money.

The move comes days after a humiliating 10-0 loss at PSV Eindhoven.

Feyenoord, 15th in the 18-team Dutch league, recovered with a 3-0 win over 17th place VVV-Venlo on Wednesday.

Gudde said the money cannot be used to bring new players to the club. Instead, Feyenoord will use the money to cut debt from ?43 million to ?26 million.

The club announced Thursday it lost ?4 million last season. The Dutch football association has given the club three years to bring its financial affairs in order.

''It's not a pocket full of money, but the debt is more bearable,'' Gudde said of the new injection.

The investors plan to issue and sell additional shares to supporters, but the club will keep a majority of shares and strategic control.

Feyenoord won the UEFA Cup in 2002, but since then it has performed poorly in European competitions. Its last league championship was in 1999.
