Lawyers for former FIFA executive committee member Vernon Manilal Fernando say their client is ''very disturbed'' over a life ban from football that they say is ''unfair,'' and he intends to appeal the decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
On Wednesday, FIFA said its appeals panel upheld a request from ethics prosecutor Michael Garcia to increase the Sri Lankan official's eight-year ban to a lifetime sanction over charges of bribery and corruption.
Fernando's appeal to overturn the original ban imposed in April was also dismissed.
Without specifying any details, FIFA said Fernando broke rules on bribery and corruption, accepting gifts and other benefits, plus conflict of interest among other violations.
