England's Football Association complained to The Sun newspaper on Wednesday after the British tabloid mocked Roy Hodgson's manner of speaking on its front page.
The paper mocked the new England coach's pronunciation by replacing all the letter ''R''s in its headline with ''W''s.
Referring to England's European Championship campaign, which kicks off June 11 against France in Donetsk, Ukraine, the tabloid called Hodgson ''Woy'' above a headline that read ''Bwing On The Euwos: We'll See You In Ukwaine against Fwance.''
''We are delighted at the media response to Roy's appointment but are disappointed with the headline in The Sun, which we consider is in poor taste and disrespectful,'' FA Chairman David Bernstein said.
The FA added that it would not raise the issue with the Press Complaints Commission - the body that regulates British newspapers - but said it had spoken with the paper, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News International.
''We have raised it with the newspaper and made it clear that their front page is unacceptable to us,'' the FA said in a statement.
The FA said both it and the PCC had received objections to the headline.
The 64-year-old Englishman, who speaks five languages, was hired Tuesday on a four-year contract that takes him through to the 2016 European Championship. Hodgson has previously managed three national teams and has coached in eight countries.
Several British newspapers reacted to Hodgson's appointment with skepticism, with many having endorsed Tottenham's Harry Redknapp as the most suitable successor to Fabio Capello, who resigned in February.
Hodgson will complete the English Premier League season with West Bromwich Albion, which is 10th in the 20-team standings with two games remaining, before taking charge of the national team full-time.
Hodgson will lead England for the first time in a friendly at Norway on May 26. He will make his debut at Wembley a week later with another friendly against Belgium.
