Former Brazil midfielder Rivaldo says he will not play for Sao Paulo next year.

The 39-year-old playmaker says on his Twitter page that the team notified him that his one-year contract would not be renewed.

He says he is not ''bidding farewell'' to football, but that he will retire at the end of 2012.

Sao Paulo signed Rivaldo in January. The club could not be contacted for comment on Friday.
