Estonia, Serbia draw 1-1 in Euro 2012 qualifier
Konstantin Vassiljev scored a late equalizer to earn Estonia a 1-1 draw against Serbia in a European Championship qualifier Group C match.
Vassiljev scored in the 84th minute with a powerful free kick that passed through Serbia's defensive wall and left goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic helpless.
The visitors took the lead with a stylish goal from Marko Pantelic, the Serbian striker slotting a precise shot past Estonia keeper Sergei Pareiko after a corner in the 38th.
Serbia pressed hard, particularly in the first half of a match played in rough weather conditions at the snowy A.Le Coq stadium, while Estonia also missed a few good scoring opportunties.
Substitute Ants Purje spurned a chance for the hosts in the 68th, narrowly missing the target with his header.
The Serbians played aggressively throughout, with Nenad Milijas and Milan Bisevac each receiving yellow cards in the second half.
Serbia coach Vladimir Petrovic praised Estonia's performance, especially goalkeeper Pareiko, whose performance he described as ''brilliant''.
''Estonia can definitely create some confusion in our group. It may indeed surprise us all,'' Petrovic said.
Estonia has already dented Serbia's qualification hopes after securing a shock 3-1 win in Belgrade in October.
Italy tops Group C with 13 points, five more than Slovenia and Serbia. Estonia trails in fourth, ahead of Northern Ireland and the Faeroe Islands.
