Enke's widow starts foundation

The German football federation has announced that Robert Enke's widow will head a foundation named for the late Germany goalkeeper that will be dedicated to the research and treatment of depression.

Enke threw himself in front of a train in November. His widow, Teresa, went on national television a day later to reveal that he had been suffering from depression for six years but did not want it to be known.

The foundation will be set up by the German federation, the league association and Enke's club Hannover.

Teresa Enke was appointed Friday as the foundation's chief executive.

Football federation president Theo Zwanziger described her as "a strong, committed woman to whom we assure our full support for the foundation's next steps."
