El Salvador's FAS drew 1-1 at home against Guatemala's Xelaju in Thursday's first leg of their preliminary round encounter in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Xelaju's Nelson Crossa opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, and FAS's William Reyes headed in an equalizer two minutes later.

Xelaju hung on for a draw despite playing most of the second half a man short following the expulsion of Carlos de Castro in the 56th minute.

The second leg will be played August 5 in Guatemala, with the eventual winner to advance to Group D against Mexico's Toluca, Honduras' Olimpia and either Puerto Rico Islanders or Los Angeles Galaxy.
