Edu returns as Gers advance

Maurice Edu returned for Glasgow Rangers and helped the defending champion beat St. Mirren 1-0 on Wednesday night to reach the quarterfinal of the Scottish Cup.

The American midfielder played the full 90 minutes of a fifth round replay at Ibrox Park which was decided by Kris Boyd's 86th minute winner for the home side.

Recovering from knee surgery at the end of last season, Edu returned for Rangers on Dec. 27 and played four games before being sidelined with an ankle problem.

U.S. midfielder DaMarcus Beasley, who started against Hibernian on Sunday after a two-month layoff with a thigh injury, was left out of Wednesday's squad.
