Brian Ching scored in the 68th minute to lift the Houston Dynamo to a 1-0 victory over El Salvador's Isidro Metapan on Wednesday in the teams' first match of Group A in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Ching, a second-half substitute, scored seven minutes after entering the game. Fellow second-half sub Stuart Holden sent a through ball into the area to Ching, who fired a shot past goalkeeper Alvaro Alfaro.
Houston is tied with Panama's Arabe Unido Group A. Unido beat Mexico's Pachuca 4-1 on Wednesday in Panama.
Houston will play Unido next Wednesday in Panama in its next CONCACAF Champions League game. Metapan will face Pachuca on Tuesday.
