Balazs Dzsudzsak scored twice Sunday to give 10-man PSV a hard-fought 2-1 win at FC Utrecht that kept the Eindhoven club second in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Frank Demouge scored a consolation goal for Utrecht in the 81st.
PSV striker Jonathan Reis was sent off in the 33rd minute for elbowing Alje Schut.
In Amsterdam, third-placed Ajax was defeated for the second time this season, losing 1-0 to in-form ADO The Hague to slip further behind the league leaders.
Wesley Verhoek, who shook off a hamstring injury, curled a shot into the top corner of Maarten Stekelenburg's net just before half time to complete a miserable week for Ajax, which lost 2-1 to Auxerre in the Champions League on Wednesday.
"It was a mess," Ajax winger Urby Emanuelson said. "We gave the ball away too often."
Defending champion FC Twente came back from conceding an early goal to beat Excelsior 2-1 on Saturday to stay top of the Eredivisie and remain the only undefeated team in the league.
Defender Leen van Steensel scored from a free kick in the 2nd minute for the visitors. Nacer Chadli, who also scored in Twente's 2-0 defeat of Werder Bremen in the Champions League on Tuesday, equalized in the 26th minute, turning away from his marker to shoot past Cees Paauwe. Marc Janko snatched a 75th-minute winner, sliding to touch in a cross from Danny Landzaat.
Groningen is fourth in the league, level on points with Ajax, after beating NAC Breda 2-1 on Saturday.
In Sunday's other games, Luc Castaignos scored an equalizer three minutes from full time to earn Feyenoord a 1-1 draw with Roda JC Kerkrade. Mads Junker had given the visitors the lead in the 24th minute. Vitesse Arnhem also shared the points with AZ Alkmaar after a 1-1 draw.
