Duisburg beats Cottbus to reach German Cup final

Duisburg advanced to the German Cup final after holding on with 10 men to beat Energie Cottbus 2-1 in a match between two second-division teams on Tuesday.

Stefan Maierhofer put Duisburg ahead in the 24th minute, and captain Srdjan Baljak doubled the lead in the 54th.

Duisburg defender Bruno Soares was sent off in the 77th for a foul in the penalty area. Nils Petersen converted the resulting penalty, and Cottbus missed several late chances to level the match.

Duisburg will play either Bayern Munich or Schalke, who meet Wednesday.

The final is on May 21 in Berlin.
