Drenthe enjoys Baines link-up
Drenthe was signed on a season-long loan from Real Madrid before the close of the transfer window and, having played in a couple of positions, is now finding his best form ahead of Baines. And it is something that he is clearly relishing. "At the moment I am playing with one of the best left-backs in the world. Leighton has really good qualities," Drenthe told Everton's official website. "We had a good relationship right from the beginning and that is really important. He can understand me and I can understand him - I am really happy to play with someone like that." Baines and Drenthe had previously locked horns at Under-21 level for their respective countries and the Dutchman credits David Moyes for having the tactical acumen to ask them to work in tandem. "It is important that when I am on the pitch I play and fight for the team," he added. "The gaffer gave me some jobs to do, to help Bainesy. I played okay, I feel I can do better and be more important for the team. "I am not disappointed - I played a good game and we won but I can do more. "I played against him in the semi-finals of the European Under 21 Championship. It took 26 penalties to settle that game so I remember him well and he remembers me!"
