Dortmund defender Owomoyela out for 3 months

Borussia Dortmund defender Patrick Owomoyela will be out for three months after undergoing an operation on his calf muscle.

The Bundesliga champion says in a statement that the former Germany international underwent surgery on Friday in Switzerland to fix a recurring muscle tendon injury in his left calf.

The injury-hindered Owomoyela is yet to play for Dortmund this season. He started just two league games last season, with another nine appearances as a substitute.

The 32-year-old Owomoyela has made 76 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund since joining from Werder Bremen in 2008.
