Borussia Dortmund defeated fourth-division Wilhelmshaven 3-0 in the first round of the German Cup on Saturday, while Bayern Leverkusen beat fifth-tier Lippstadt 6-1 to progress.

Dortmund, last season's runner-up, struggled to break down the home side's resolute defense until Kevin Grosskreutz opened the scoring in the 71st minute. Marvin Ducksch secured the result in the 83rd, before Robert Lewandowski added some gloss to the score in the last minute.

Halftime substitute Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting scored twice to rescue a 2-1 win for Mainz at fourth-tier Fortuna Cologne, Hoffenheim routed fifth-tier SG Aumund-Vegesack 9-0, and second-division Kaiserslautern won 7-0 at sixth-tier Neckarsulmer SU.

Second-division sides Ingolstadt and Energie Cottbus defeated fifth-tier Sportfreunde Baumberg 4-1 and fourth-tier Magdeburg 1-0, respectively. Another second-division side, Bochum, won 3-1 at fifth-tier Bahlinger SC.
