Dorival Jr named Fluminense coach
Defending Brazilian champion Fluminense has hired coach Dorival Jr. on a five-match contract as they look to avoid relegation to the second division.
The 51-year-old who is being unveiled on Tuesday, replaces former Real Madrid and Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Dorival joins Fluminense after being axed as the coach of relegation-threatened Vasco da Gama.
Fluminense says it is ''confident'' that Dorival will keep the team in the topflight. They are third from bottom in the league, one point adrift of Vasco da Gama.
A former defensive midfielder, Dorival coached Neymar's Santos to the 2010 Brazilian Cup title. He has also had spells in charge of Flamengo, Internacional and Atletico Mineiro.
Fluminense is trying to avoid being the first defending champion to be relegated.
