Donovan: Toffees spell a success

Landon Donovan believes his short-term spell with Everton has been a success as he prepares for his final match with the club this weekend.

The United States international has been recalled by Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy - whose season starts on March 27 - despite the Toffees trying to gain an extension to the 10-week deal.

After Galaxy coach Bruce Arena stressed Donovan's attendance was required in Los Angeles in four days' time Everton conceded defeat in their attempts to keep Donovan.

However, the American, who scored two goals in nine Premier League appearances, will leave Merseyside the better for his experience.

"When I think of everything at Everton I want to think of the trip as a whole and think that I have been successful," he told evertonTV ahead of his final game at Birmingham on Saturday.

"It has been fantastic and I could never have expected when I got here that it would turn out like this.

"The fans want you to play as hard as you can when you are out there.

"That is what I like to give when I am out there and they want to see the team win."
