Distin's contract expires at the end of the season and there had been suggestions the 34-year-old would seek a move away from Goodison Park were he not offered a new two-year deal, rumours that were subsequently denied by the player. Moyes has now revealed that there is a clause in the Frenchman's contract giving Everton licence to extend his stay on Merseyside until the summer of 2013. "We have an option on Sylvain, so he can't go anywhere" said the Scot. "It's not a problem." Distin joined Everton in a £5million deal from Portsmouth in 2009 and has made 91 appearances to date.
