Di Canio keen to keep stars
Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has been called up to Didier Deschamps' France squad for next month's friendlies in Uruguay and Brazil.
Grenier has been added to the touring party due to doubts over the fitness of Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri, although the exact problem with the 25-year-old was not clarified.
Nasri has been in New York with English Premier League side City and played in two games against Chelsea, winning 4-3 and 5-3.
He had been recalled to the national side after a year-long absence following a three-game international ban for his behaviour during Euro 2012.
A statement on the French football federation's website, www.fff.fr, said: "Because of doubts on Samir Nasri's health after Manchester City's two games in the United States, Didier Deschamps has called up Clement Grenier."
France play Uruguay on June 5 and Brazil on June 9.
With the Black Cats having narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League in 2012/13, rebuilding will be a top priority for Di Canio this summer as he attempts to put his own stamp on a squad inherited from Martin O'Neill.
Di Canio will be looking to make a number of additions to his ranks, but he has also been quick to point out that he has no intention of allowing prized assets to slip through his grasp.
Mignolet is among those said to have attracted interest on the back of his efforts in an underperforming side, but Sunderland's attention is very much focused on strengthening.
Di Canio said in the Sunderland Echo: "It is clear that we have to bring in players over the summer - half-a-dozen, maybe more.
"We finished near the relegation zone and so it is obvious that we need to make changes to make sure that we are not in this situation next season.
"But at the same time we already have some quality players here, and I want them to stay.
"I want to build something here at Sunderland and take the club forward - that is my mission. So the last thing I want to do is to let any of our quality players leave.
"Simon is a top class goalkeeper. He's very important to us."
