Defoe hoping to return next week

The 23-goal striker has missed Spurs' last three matches due to a hamstring injury and was initially expected to be sidelined for a few weeks. However, Defoe is pleased with the speed of his recovery and is planning to resume full training with his team-mates at the start of the week. And the England international is confident he will then be in contention for a return to Harry Redknapp's side for next weekend's match at Sunderland. "It was nothing major, I just pulled up in training," Defoe told Goals on Sunday. "When I first did it, I thought it was bad. When I do get little knocks I tend to recover really quickly. "I was running the next day, which was a good sign, and it's really good. "I think I will train tomorrow and I'll play next week definitely."
