Striker Jermain Defoe and midfielder Michael Carrick have been withdrawn from England's squad to face Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday after picking up injuries this weekend, while Daniel Sturridge is a doubt for the friendly match.

Defoe hurt his left ankle in Tottenham's 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday and Carrick came away from Manchester United's 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday with a hip injury.

The Football Association says no replacements have been called up.

Sturridge hurt his left thigh in Liverpool's 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Sunday and his injury is being assessed.

If Sturridge can't play, England manager Roy Hodgson has just two other strikers - Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck - at his disposal. Theo Walcott could also play up front.
