CSKA holds lead in Russia with win over Dynamo
MOSCOW (AP) CSKA Moscow earned its first win in six years over capital city rival Dynamo Moscow, taking a 2-0 victory Sunday to remain five points clear at the top of the Russian Premier League.
Lokomotiv Moscow kept pace in second, while third-placed Zenit St. Petersburg ended a run of four Russian league games without a win.
CSKA started slowly against Dynamo but took the lead when Swedish midfielder Pontus Wernbloom beat Dynamo goalkeeper Vladimir Gabulov to the ball in the 47th minute and headed in Alan Dzagoev's corner.
The second goal came half an hour later when Seydou Doumbia failed to beat Gabulov on a breakaway but did just enough to pass the ball across goal to Ahmed Musa, who tapped in at the far post.
One of Dynamo's better chances fell to Pavel Pogrebnyak, who fired at goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev from a good position.
CSKA remains unbeaten in 11 league games this season, while Dynamo is 10th, having failed to win any of its last four.
Lokomotiv stayed in touch with CSKA, completing a routine 3-0 win over Amkar Perm on Sunday night.
Midfielder Alexander Kolomeitsev only moved to Lokomotiv from Amkar in the summer and scored his first league goal for the Railwaymen in the 28th off a backheel from Alan Kasaev.
Veteran midfielder Alexander Samedov and youngster Alexei Miranchuk added polish to the scoreline with a late goal each.
Zenit has had a difficult start to the season and remained without suspended coach Andre Villas-Boas for Saturday's visit of FC Rostov, but completed a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Brazilian forward Hulk didn't manage to add to his league-leading mark of six goals this season, but made an impact by setting up all three of Zenit's goals. Played in by accurate passes from Hulk, Igor Smolnikov, Artyom Dzyuba and Miguel Danny all found the target.
Zenit is eight points behind CSKA and three off Champions League qualification.
In other results, Spartak Moscow remained fourth with a 1-0 win over Mordovia Saransk, while last season's third-placed team FC Krasnodar continued to struggle in ninth, drawing 1-1 with FC Ufa.
Anzhi Makhachkala remains last with a 1-1 draw with Kuban Krasnodar, Terek Grozny beat Rubin Kazan 2-1, and Ural Yekaterinburg and Krylya Sovetov Samara played out a 1-1 draw.
