The US Men’s national team has enjoyed considerable success at Crew Stadium in Columbus, particularly in World Cup qualifying. Their next qualifier at the home of the Columbus Crew will involve facing somebody other than Mexico.
The United States will take on Jamaica on September 11 at Crew Stadium. The venue was announced on Wednesday.
The Americans will face Jamaica twice in five days, with the sides meeting in a World Cup qualifier in Jamaica on September 7.
These teams last met a year ago, with the United States posting a 2-0 victory at RFK Stadium in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals
The United States has never lost at Crew Stadium, boasting a 5-0-3 record, including three World Cup qualifying wins against Mexico. The Americans have outscored their opponents 12-1 in those matches, though the one goal allowed was to Jamaica in a 1-1 draw in a 2004 World Cup qualifier.
There is some thought that semifinal round qualifier might mean that Columbus won’t continue its tradition of hosting future US vs. Mexico matches. US Soccer held qualifiers in Columbus in both semifinal and final rounds of qualifying before the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
The United States and Jamaica are favored to qualify from their qualifying group to the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. Guatemala and Antigua & Barbuda are the other participants in the group.
The US national team will begin their World Cup qualifying campaign in Tampa against Antigua & Barbuda on June 8.
