Cottagers deny Schwarzer claims

Fulham have denied reports goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has expressed his desire to leave the club by handing in a transfer request.

The Cottagers' number one has been the subject of speculation linking him with a summer move across London to Premier League rivals Arsenal, who had a £2million bid for the former Middlesbrough man rejected earlier this summer.

New Fulham manager Mark Hughes underlined his commitment to keep hold of the Australia stopper when he was announced as the club's new manager last month.

Reports on Wednesday morning suggested that the 37-year-old was ready to force Hughes' hand by demanding a move away from Craven Cottage in order to have the chance of playing Champions League football for the Gunners next season.

A Fulham spokeswoman denied those reports, however, saying: " The club has not received a transfer request from Mark Schwarzer.

"Mark is under contract with us until the summer of 2011 and the manager has underlined his commitment to keep hold of his best players."
