Copa Libertadores Wrap Feb 24
Argentinian giant Independiente secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Uruguayan side Penarol in their Copa Libertadores Group Eight clash in Buenos Aires.
The reigning Copa Sudamericana champion opened the scoring through Facundo Parra before midfielder Cristian Pellerano doubled its advantage from distance. Striker Andres Silvera completed the scoring with five minutes to go.
"I believe this was the team's best performance since I took the reins. The idea is to maintain this level ahead of the next clashes," said Independiente boss Antonio Mohamed.
At Diego Maradona stadium Argentinos Juniors came from behind to defeat Mexican giant America 3-1 and climb to the top of Group Three.
America playmaker Daniel Montenegro headed home a free-kick to open the scoring, but Santiago Salcedo levelled from the spot.
Paraguayan Salcedo fired Argentinos ahead from a corner before Cristian Sanchez Prette netted an outstanding shot from outside the box.
In Barranquilla Junior saw off Gremio 2-1 in Group Two. Borges put Gremio ahead but Giovanni Hernandez equalised before Jhon Viafara gave the Colombian side victory.
