The highly-rated forward, 21, arrives having risen through the youth levels to become part of the first-team squad at the Stadium of Light, making a total of two substitute appearances for the Black Cats, both of which came this season against Manchester United and Chelsea. Cook has forced his way back from cruciate ligament damage sustained while playing for the club's reserves, albeit on loan at Darlington at the time, which ruined his 2009/10 campaign. But the versatile youngster is now raring to go and Smith is delighted to have him on board. "He is another player who has been on our radar for some time," said Smith. "He has played regularly for Sunderland's reserves and has also broken into their first team this season, so it shows how highly they rate him. "The lad can play down the middle or out wide and he is full of enthusiasm and pace, something we need right now.."
