Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Petrucci is asking for sanctions after the country's national anthem was again whistled by rival fans during the European Championship.

Loud whistles emanated from Croatian supporters during the anthem before Thursday's 1-1 draw. Spain fans also whistled - albeit in lesser numbers - ahead of the opening Group C match with Italy, also a 1-1 draw.

Petrucci tells the ANSA news agency he'll have the Italian football federation seek sanctions from UEFA. He says, ''It can't go on like this.''

There were also loud boos directed at Italy forward Mario Balotelli, often the subject of racism, when he exited in the 69th minute.
