Cologne has demoted striker Adil Chihi to its reserve side due to a ''provocative'' incident in training.
Chihi kicked the ball away after being challenged in training on Tuesday and then argued with coach Frank Schaefer.
Schaefer says he had to drop Chihi, a German of Moroccan background, because his gesture was ''a slap for the team and the coach.''
Cologne is next to last in the Bundesliga. Chihi has made only two appearances this season.
