Fortuna Duesseldorf has parted company with coach Norbert Meier after the club's relegation from the Bundesliga on the final day of the season earlier this month.

The club's chairman Peter Frymuth said Monday the contract was terminated by ''mutual consent.''

Meier still had a season on the contract. He took over the club in midseason in 2008 and guided it from the third tier to the top flight. But the club was relegated after only one season in the Bundesliga.
