Chile defeats Bolivia 2-0 in World Cup qualifying
Charles Aranguiz scored in first-half injury time and Arturo Vidal added another in the second half to lead Chile to a 2-0 victory over Bolivia in South American World Cup qualifying on Saturday.
Aranguiz broke into the area and took advantage of poor defending to slot home from 12 meters (yards). Vidal got his in the 84th on a 20-meter (yard) strike.
Bolivia was reduced to 10 men after Luis Gutierrez was sent off in the 54th for a straight red card.
Bolivia remained last in qualifying.
The three points are critical for Chile, which won in the thin air of La Paz at 3,600 meters (11,800 feet). Most teams struggle at the altitude.
