Chicago Fire's Magee undergoes hip surgery, out for season
The reigning MLS MVP won't finish the 2014 season and likely will have his 2015 debut delayed.
Mike Magee will miss six to eight months after having hip surgery Monday, the Chicago Fire announced.

"It's unfortunate that Mike will be out for an extended period, but he's been struggling this season with the injuries," Fire coach Frank Yallop said in a club news release. "After consulting with our medical staff, we decided that this was the best time for Mike to have the procedure."
The surgery was "to address an injury of the labrum and to repair articular surface damage," the news release stated.
Magee joined the Fire during the 2013 season via a trade from the LA Galaxy and won the league's MVP award after scoring 21 goals -- good for second best. He had helped the Galaxy stay afloat early in the year with usual star Landon Donovan taking a break from soccer. Magee was then traded to hometown club Chicago in exchange for Robbie Rogers' rights.
He wasn't able to make the same impact this year but still recorded seven goals and four assists in 17 league games.
