Cesena draws with Cagliari, 1-1
Cesena remain rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table after failing to register their first win of the season against Cagliari.
Anderson Nene gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute after Jorge Martinez was penalised for handball.
But the home side equalised through a penalty of their own just before the interval, Antonio Candreva converting from the spot after Daniele Canini was adjudged to have handled in the area.
Cagliari's opener was one of few chances in the early stages and it looked like Cesena had squandered their best chance to equalise when Citadin Eder lost his footing when faced with just goalkeeper Michael Agazzi to beat.
However, just seconds before the interval Eder's shot was handled by Canini and Candreva made no mistake from the spot to level the scores.
The home side started the second half the stronger but Agazzi was easily able to save long-range efforts from Martinez and Eder before the latter blazed off the bar following a swift counter-attack.
Further long-range efforts at both ends never threatened to trouble the goalkeepers until the 78th minute when Agazzi was forced to make an excellent save from Marco Parolo's header.
That proved to be last clear-cut chance of the game, leaving Cesena with three points from their first eight games of the season, two adrift of safety.
Cagliari are fourth in the standings with 13 points from eight games.
