Cerezo upstages Gamba to reach ACL quarters

A stunning late strike by Daisuke Takahashi gave Cerezo Osaka a shock 1-0 win over crosstown rival Gamba Osaka on Tuesday and a berth in the Asian Champions League quarterfinals.

Takahashi hit an audacious shot from the right edge of the penalty area and beat the Gamba goalkeeper at the near post in the 88th minute.

Gamba - the 2008 champions - went into the match as a strong favorite at home against their smaller neighbor but barely threatened Cerezo until it was too late, with Takashi Usami hitting a post with a scrambled shot right on 90 minutes.
