Carson admits anger over axe

Carson was dropped by Di Matteo after a howler at Fulham in January and Boaz Myhill was preferred for the next six Premier League games. And the 25-year-old has regained his place under Roy Hodgson, he remains disappointed with the way Di Matteo made his decision public in the build-up to the home win over Blackpool. "I made a mistake against Fulham that was well highlighted with it being live on Sky," Carson told the Express & Star. "I don't know if Robbie had been thinking of leaving me out before then or whether he just wanted to change things around to try to make something happen, but it was disappointing to be left out. "It wasn't so much getting dropped that I was angry and upset about, because that's part of your life if you're a footballer. It happens now and again. "If you make a mistake you know it can happen and that's fair enough. It was the manner in which it was done that I found hard to deal with, the way it was built into a big news story and announced early in the week ahead of the Blackpool game. "Other lads have been left out of the side and the outside world only finds out when the team-sheet goes in. It's not made into a big deal, you get told in-house and that's the end of it. "It made me feel twice as bad and that did annoy me a little bit, but once it was a bit less raw a few days later I got my head back together and just worked as hard as I could." Di Matteo was sacked after the 3-0 defeat at Manchester City in early February, which left the Baggies two points above the drop zone. Hodgson's arrival has revitalised the Baggies, though, and Albion look to have secured survival after winning three out of four before last week's 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea. "Since the gaffer came in it's been a fresh start for everyone, people are playing to impress and to get spots in the team and that gives you extra momentum," Carson added. "Everyone has something new to prove and, when you add that to ideas and organisation he has brought in, we've been able to produce some great performances."
