The powerful forward was strongly tipped for an England call-up for the clash with Montenegro after being left out of Stuart Pearce's Under 21 party. But the anticipated nod from Fabio Capello failed to materialise with the Italian tactician instead electing to bring in veteran Bolton frontman Kevin Davies for his first cap at the age of 33. Carroll insists his head is not being turned by suggestions that he is in the frame for full international honours and is focused purely on helping the Magpies. He told the Chronicle: "It's a compliment. And at the moment that's all it is. I'm not going to get distracted from my task. "I need to just work hard in training and do my stuff in games. "I don't look at anything like that, not at the league tables too much, top scorers tables or papers - and I don't watch too many games on TV. "I just solely focus on the next game. And if I score and we are winning, then I know I'm doing my job correctly. "I'm not really into watching other games, I just focus completely on Newcastle United and doing the best for our fans." Newcastle return to Premier League action after the international break with a home meeting against Wigan, when Carroll will be aiming to add to his tally of four goals so far this term. He added: "I know a few of the lads like to read up on things, but I find out a few days before who we're playing and concentrate on that. "It's working very well for me at the minute, but I know I have to keep working hard to keep it up. "It's always about the next game."
