Newcastle striker Andy Carroll has been released on bail - on condition that he lives with Magpies captain Kevin Nolan.
Carroll appeared at Tynedale Magistrates' Court in Hexham on Monday after being arrested in Ponteland on Sunday.
He was charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend Laurie Henderson at her home, and after an hour-long hearing he was bailed to live with Newcastle club captain Nolan.
Carroll has denied the offence, claiming self-defence, the court heard. The case has been adjourned until January 10.

Carroll, though, will be in court again next week as he answers charges of occasioning actual bodily harm following an incident at a Newcastle nightclub last year.
