Carolina Morace has resigned as coach of the Canadian women's soccer team, which failed to win a game at the World Cup.
The Canadian Soccer Association says the Italian handed in her resignation Wednesday after an internal review of the team's performance at the World Cup. The sixth-ranked Canadians lost to two-time defending champion Germany, France and Nigeria and exited after the first round.
Captain Christine Sinclair broke her nose in the opening 2-1 loss to Germany. The striker kept playing and scored Canada's only goal in three games.
In just over two years, Morace had a 25-11-5 record with the national team.

The association says it expects to have a new coach in place this fall, before the start of Olympic qualifying in January.
