Hibernian says Colin Calderwood has been hired as manager of the Scottish Premier League side on a three-year contract.
Calderwood has left his post as assistant manager of Newcastle to replace John Hughes, who parted company with Hibs earlier this month following the club's poor start to the season.
The 45-year-old Calderwood said Monday ''I have always wanted to be a manager again in my own right and I am therefore delighted to be given this opportunity at another huge club.''
The former Scotland defender has previously managed Northampton and Nottingham Forest in the English lower leagues.
