Buddle keen to cause England trouble
United States striker Edson Buddle believes he has given coach Bob Bradley a selection headache for Saturday's World Cup clash with England.
Buddle did not feature in the USA's qualifying programme for South Africa but forced himself into contention for the finals after a fine campaign with Los Angeles Galaxy.
The 29-year-old was handed a chance against Australia in Saturday's final warm-up international in Johannesburg and responded with two goals in a 3-1 success.
They were Buddle's first at senior level in only his third appearance.
With Jozy Altidore, top USA scorer in qualifying, still an injury doubt Buddle is hoping he has forced his way into contention to start against Fabio Capello's side in Rustenburg.
He said: "I've given the coach a bit of a headache probably - but it's a good headache for him to have.
"I was so pleased to get my first senior goals and it gives me a lot of confidence to go forward into the England game.
"I am proud of myself. I had my chance and I didn't fail.
"Sometimes it is like that, and sometimes it is not. This time it was on my side and I made the most of the opportunity."
Buddle formed an impressive looking partnership with Robbie Findley, though the latter admits they will have to gel quickly.
He said: "The partnership is going to take some time but we don't have a lot of time.
"It felt good out there with Edson. I am a target player and he is a pacy player and it is easy to find him over the top."
Findley is confident that USA have made a gradual improvement during their build-up to the World Cup since winning in Turkey.
The Real Salt Lake player said: "From the first warm-up matches we just wanted to build and build in the right direction.
"We did well in Turkey, and got the win there, and we have done some good stuff out here as well and played well against Australia.
"It is just about taking those steps forward and getting ready for next weekend and we are in good shape for the match with England."
