Bruce hopes Bolo stays with Cats
Zenden, who joined Sunderland on a free transfer from Marseille last October, has been restricted to a bit-part role since his arrival due to a number of niggling injuries. The former Liverpool and Chelsea man has scored twice in 18 appearances and he admitted over the weekend he was unsure of his long-term future on Wearside. But Bruce is hoping to keep the Dutchman for another year as he believes he still has a lot to offer. "Bolo is probably a bit disappointed he hasn't started more. To be fair, when I was looking for him to start games, if I look back at the records, he picked up a couple of niggly injuries," Bruce told the Sunderland Echo. "That's par for the course at his age and it meant I couldn't play him, but he's done very well and I like to have him involved. "And the one thing he has helped me with is the development of the young players. If you watch him as an older pro, he's a great pro. "So I will sit down with him over the next 24, 48 hours and see what he wants to do. I would like to keep him for another year, because he's got something to offer." Meanwhile, Andy Reid has returned to training after recovering from a hamstring injury. Reid has been out of action since early February, but he is now back training with the first-team. "Andy joined in for the first time today," added Bruce.
