Brooklyn brothers hospitalized
Two brothers from Brooklyn were hospitalized, one with critical injuries, after being beaten by a group of men in MetLife Stadium's parking lot Sunday evening.
Alfredo Lopez, 37, was struck in the head with a glass bottle while being punched and kicked in the vicious attack around 6:15pm local time following an international soccer game between Mexico and Wales, The Star-Ledger reported Monday.
He was in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center, New Jersey Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite said.
His younger sibling Raymundo Lopez, 35, also was assaulted and treated for "less serious" injuries at Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, N.J.
Police said the brothers were set upon after urging the driver of a "low-rider" car, an "old model" royal blue Chevy Impala, to "bounce" using the car's hydraulic system as they walked through the parking lot after the game.
The tapping on the vehicle apparently riled the passengers, with five or six men emerging from the car to chase the victims through the parking lot before assaulting them.
Officers did not have descriptions of the attackers but said the assault was unconnected to the soccer game.
The incident came in the same month that a collision in the parking lot involving two luxury cars and a motorcycle claimed the life of a 56-year-old man and resulted in death-by-auto charges for two men.
