Brighton has formally apologized to Crystal Palace after excrement was found on the floor of its fierce rival's changing room before the second leg of their second-tier League Championship playoff last week.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber says the club has ''reviewed our internal procedures to guard against this ever happening again.''

In an email to season-ticket holders, Barber said ''we apologized to Crystal Palace as soon as the vandalism in their dressing room was discovered, and again more formally a few days after the match.''

Palace won the match 2-0 at Brighton's Amex Stadium on May 13 to advance to the playoff final, where it will play Watford at Wembley Stadium on Monday for a place in the Premier League.
