Bremen dents Gladbach's UCL hopes
Werder Bremen overcame playing a man down for 63 minutes to come back and grab a 2-2 draw at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Markus Rosenberg gave Bremen the lead after 18 minutes and the hosts saw defender Sebastian Boenisch red carded nine minutes later.
Mike Hanke equalised for Gladbach in the 52nd minute and then fired his side ahead on 66 minutes. But Naldo equalised in the 74th minute for Bremen.
Bremen have not won in five games and just once in the past eight but picked up a point to move into the Europa League places.
Gladbach also have just one victory in their past eight matches to remain in the Champions League play-off place.
Gladbach pushed forward straight away looking to grab the lead, but Marco Reus shot just wide in the seventh minute. Roman Neustadter's header was cleared off the line by Werder defender Lukas Schmitz in the 10th minute.
Bremen appeared to have earned a penalty after 15 minutes as Dante took down Marko Marin but referee Marco Fritz did not point to the spot.
Gladbach's next chance came in the 17th minute as Patrick Herrmann shot wide from 10 yards.
Bremen took the lead a minute later with Dante misplaying a pass from Claudio Pizarro which went to Rosenberg, who looped the ball over an on-rushing Gladbach keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The hosts went a man down after 27 minutes, as Boenisch was red carded for taking down Herrmann as the last defender.
Two minutes later, Gladbach's Martin Stranzl hit the crossbar from a tight angle.
Gladbach finally scored a goal in the 52nd minute with Juan Arango passing to Hanke, who turned and blasted his left-footed effort off the far right post and in to make it 1-1.
Ter Stegen kept it that way in the 55th minute with a superb save after a left-foot shot by Pizarro.
Bremen keeper Tim Wiese made a great save to deny Herrmann in the 65th minute. But Wiese could not stop Gladbach from taking the lead a minute later as Reus ran onto a long ball on the counter and crossed to Hanke, who struck into the lower-left corner.
Bremen equalised after 74 minutes following a set piece as Zlatko Junuzovic's free-kick from the right side was headed home by Naldo to make it 2-2.
Gladbach nearly grabbed the victory late but Alexander Ring blasted his shot off the crossbar in the 88th minute.
