Bremen, Augsburg hire new director
Werder Bremen has hired former footballer and ice hockey manager Thomas Eichin as its new sports director.
Eichin was officially presented Thursday and will take over the position left vacant by the departure of Klaus Allofs in the spring. Allofs left Bremen last month to join Wolfsburg as sports director.
A former defender for Borussia Moenchengladbach between 1985 and 1996, Eichin has been in management positions for the Cologne Sharks ice hockey team.
He is currently the managing director of the Cologne club and will move to Bremen once the ice hockey season is over for the Sharks, who are one of the title contenders.
Meanwhile, Augsburg also announced the hiring of a new sports director - Stefan Reuter, who was a member of Germany's World Cup winning team in 1990. Augsburg is next to last in the Bundesliga and parted company with Reuter's predecessor Juergen Rollmann four days ago.
