Brands keeps faith in Rutten
PSV are third in the table but cannot move above both leaders FC Twente and Ajax as they meet on the final day of the season. It means PSV's aim of regaining the domestic crown they last won in 2008 has not been realised, but Brands remains confident Rutten is still the man to bring success back to the club. "He has a contract for another season and I see no reason to prematurely terminate it," said Brands, who was quick to point to a refereeing decision which saw them lose to Feyenoord on April 24, a defeat which effectively ended their challenge. "Should we judge Fred Rutten on the fact Orlando Engelaar received an unjustified red card against Feyenoord," he added in the AD Sportwereld newspaper. "PSV competed for the title right to the end and got to the quarter-finals of the Champions League." PSV may yet miss out on a place in the Champions League qualification places for next season but even that scenario would not prompt the club to act, according to Brands. "I'm not someone anyone decides a coach's future based on one game," he said. PSV go to FC Groningen on the final day. They are three points behind Twente and two adrift of second-placed Ajax, who clash in Amsterdam.
